- In a later post you say that you want to run the PC version of
- OpenWindows (or whatever X on the PC is called). To clear things up
- for you: X on the PC is called X. X on any box is called X.
- OpenWindows <> X: it is a particular flavour of X, produced by Sun.
-
- If you want to run OpenWindows (i.e. if you want the same windowing
- environment as you have on your SPARC) on your PC, then you will need
- to buy Solaris from Sun (Solaris is SunOS, OpenWindows, and some other
- stuff).
-
- This segues into a question you have not asked: "What UNIX should I
- run?" A very good question, and one that you should probably answer
- before asking the rest: the answer may very well determine what CPU(s)
- you can buy, what disks, how much disk space you can have, etc.
-
- I suggest that you do a little more digging, looking into UNIX variants
- such as Solaris, SCO UNIX, Xenix, linux, and whatever else might be
- available.
-
- The various vendors should be able to help you with the answers to the
- rest of your questions (questions on linux should be directed to
- comp.os.linux). Come back to the net for sanity checks on vendor
- replies, however.
