  11. I have noted the problem of the missing brackets with the bin01.install 
  12. script. This is a related problem, but moved one step earlier. First, let 
  13. me describe what I *think* happens.

  15. install places the executable extract in /tmp
  16. loadfd can be used to copy the bin01 distribution fragments from DOS floppies
  17.   (question: where is this useful program to be found? it seems to disappear
  18.    when the system goes multi-user)
  19. when extract is run, the extraction never completes. It just runs for ever.

  21. I have tried extracting using cpio, but then /dev/kmem doesn't get made
  22. and a whole bunch of other things don't get done. If the problem is a missing
  23. [ or ] in the shell script, how do I get at the script, which only seems to
  24. appear in /tmp/tmp after extract has been run?

  26. Is there something particularly slow about the cpio on the boot disk? It takes
  27. over two hours to extract the bin01 distribution when I use uncompress and
  28. cpio.
