  17. I just did so.  There are a number of reasons why this is a good idea:

  19. 0)  There aren't all that many copies of BSDI out there right now.  If there
  20. are enough of us, there will be a hell of a lot of us to take the copies away
  21. from, worst case.  Might help dissuade the enforcers if the case is otherwise
  22. marginal.

  24. 1)  If BSDI loses the battle, you have a collector's item.  Be sure to hide
  25. it from the phone cops.  ("Uh - the dog ate it").  
  26.  
  27. 2)  BSDI could use the money.
  28.  
  29. 3)  BSDI could use the encouragement.  There is NOTHING like eager customers
  30. to encourage people in a small company to work harder.
  31.  
  32. 4)  BSDI probably has investors.  If those investors see a sudden upsurge in
  33. sales, they will probably invest more rather than pull out.  If BSDI sold
  34. twice as many copies over the next few weeks as forecast in the business
  35. plan, they tend to look twice as valuable, which means their investors will
  36. try to buy a larger stake, which means LOTS OF BUCKS.  A very small number
  37. of purchases now can have a hell of an effect on the resources BSDI can devote
  38. to the AT&T battle.

  40. That means YOU, bucko!  Your spending a kilobuck now could result in
  41. $10K-$100K additional investment.  Here's a chance for us little guys to
  42. have an impact!  As much as I hate the idea of this lawsuit, it does give
  43. us an opportunity for doing good deeds!

  45. Buy a copy for yourself.  Your friends.  Your Mom.  Your Dog.  ;-)
