  15. Apparently the "Distribution: mit" line doesn't actually restrict the
  16. spread of the posting by very much, nor do people actually read
  17. postings too closely. I posted:

  21.     I got two requests from Berkeley (not unreasonable,
  22. considering the people involved, and I wasn't surprised that Berkeley
  23. would be getting an mit distribution -- MIT gets the ba (bay area)
  24. distribution. Besides, they had read the posting and had reasons to
  25. join the list anyhow.) Then I got a completely random one from someone
  26. in San Jose, and just a few minutes ago I got a request from someone
  27. in *Germany*.
  28.     Please, folks, most of the people on this list actually read
  29. comp.unix.bsd; mit-386bsd is just for locally relevant discussions
  30. (such as "where can we put the sources to best share them" and "can
  31. anyone come over and look at my hardware".) 
  32.     Hopefully this message will go as far afield as the first one
  33. did...
