- Let me get this straight...

- You are attempting to run fsck on an open, mounted file
- system that also happens to be root file system in multi-
- user mode and when it bombs it's a pain??

- 'fsck' should _always_ be run on closed, unmounted file-
- systems. 'fsck'ing the root file system is even more
- restrictive: single user mode _only_ and if 'fsck' finds a
- problem it will (because it _must_) immediately reboot the
- system.
