- The serial drivers for A/UX don't work properly. Trying to
- figure out the top speed is difficult, since in most of my tests
- the load on A/UX seems to be directly related to the problems
- with the serial ports.
-
- At times running incoming/outgoing serial connections at 2400,
- could/would cause the machine to crash (read BOOM!). This
- happened most of the time when the load average hung around 2.2
- and above. Playing around with my crontab entries and things
- I've managed to make my machine a bit more stable by not running
- alot of things all at the same time. While this isn't the best,
- it'll have to do until Apple finishes fixing the serial drivers
- (are they still working on the fix - I haven't heard anything
- for quite some time).
-
- To try and answer your question, I've got a Supra V.32bis modem
- connected to one of the serial ports running slip. The modems
- are connected at 14.4, while the computer to modem rate is
- 38400, and it's been pretty stable as long as I can keep the
- load average down. So, I think the answer to your question is
- that A/UX should be able to work at top speed with a 9600 baud
- modem. ^^^^^^
