- I assume you are primarily (or only?) concerned with the ability
- to install A/UX? I know for some people (like Bill) that is true.
-
- The install may in fact be an acid test of A/UX compatibility....
- (Anyone know? Is it?)
-
- If either of these things is true, then I can report something you
- may be interested to hear.... My Chinon CDA-431 was able to
- install A/UX 3.0 recently. Although I was never able to get the
- 2.0 installer to work properly on my Mac, I was able to mount
- the A/UX 2.0 CD from a sick 2.0 installation fine. I have yet to
- fool with the CD under 3.0 since I have gotten that running....
-
- I can't recommend the Chinon drives unless, like me, your main
- concern is its audio capabilities (I haven't got a *real* audio
- CD player...). In that case I would look at the CDC-431, which
- comes with a remote control. I don't know, but it might be worth
- asking if that model can play CDs when the Mac is not on. But
- then, who of us ever turns our Mac(s) off...? ;-)
-
- At any rate, these drives have gotten relatively poor performance
- ratings for their data performance, but they seem to have much
- better jacks and controls for pure audio stuff than many other
- drives. And I think it is just that the driver (software) is slow, as
- the mechanism is supposedly a quick one. I just have the driver
- sw I got with it a long time ago. It might be newer now. Or maybe
- third parties have drivers that will work....

- You should probably scoop up the Apple CD150 offered for sale in:
