  24. If either of these things is true, then I can report something you
  25. may be interested to hear....  My Chinon CDA-431 was able to
  26. install A/UX 3.0 recently.  Although I was never able to get the
  27. 2.0 installer to work properly on my Mac, I was able to mount
  28. the A/UX 2.0 CD from a sick 2.0 installation fine.  I have yet to
  29. fool with the CD under 3.0 since I have gotten that running....

  31. I can't recommend the Chinon drives unless, like me, your main
  32. concern is its audio capabilities (I haven't got a *real* audio
  33. CD player...).  In that case I would look at the CDC-431, which
  34. comes with a remote control.  I don't know, but it might be worth
  35. asking if that model can play CDs when the Mac is not on.  But
  36. then, who of us ever turns our Mac(s) off...?  ;-)

  38. At any rate, these drives have gotten relatively poor performance
  39. ratings for their data performance, but they seem to have much
  40. better jacks and controls for pure audio stuff than many other
  41. drives.  And I think it is just that the driver (software) is slow, as
  42. the mechanism is supposedly a quick one.  I just have the driver
  43. sw I got with it a long time ago.  It might be newer now.  Or maybe
  44. third parties have drivers that will work....
