- I just found out that AIX limits the size of Fortran direct-access
- files to 1 GB. What happened to the extra addressing bit?
- A limitation of 2 GB is irritating enough --- why 1 GB?
-
- Does this limitation exist in AIX 3.2 ???
-
- I hoped that AIX would be useful for supporting scientific computing,
- but I keep on getting hit with these stupid and arbitrary limits:
- (1) Data size limited to 256 MB per process. (Unless you are willing
- to re-write your application in a non-portable way to access
- everything through a pointer.)
- (2) File systems limited to 2 GB. No disk striping supported.
- (3) File size limited to 1 GB.
- (4) I don't know yet, but I am certain that I will get hit with
- it in the next few weeks :-)
-
- My environment:
- IBM RISC System/6000 Model 950
- 512 MB RAM
- 6 SCSI controllers, each with 3 1.6 GB Elite drives.
- AIX 3.1.5 (I think)
- XLF 2.2
