- First, I won't participate in this discussion without changing the name!
-
- The graphics adapters which can go in the 220 are:
- Power GT1 (2D, no slot, direct access to memory) Highly recommended for 2D
- Power GT3 (2D, one slot)
- Power GTO (High-performance, 3D, external graphics processor, the
- GTO Accelerator Feature (interface board) takes one slot)
-
- Those are all standard PS/2-sized cards (which we call "Type 3" internally,
- perhaps to indicate that they're 3 inches high).
-
- The remaining graphics adapters are all built of "Type 5" cards, and are too
- tall to fit into the model 220. They are, specifically,
- Color Graphics Display Adapter ("Skyway", one slot)
- High-Performance 3D Color Graphics Processor ("Sabine", 8 or 24-bit, two slots)
- Power GT4 and GT4x (two slots (8-bit) or three slots (24-bit))
-
- As correctly stated earlier in this thread, the only 3D graphics adapter
- currently available for the 220 is the Power GTO, which in some configurations
- can cost more than the computer. This may not be a problem, to some customers
- who are looking for a relatively inexpensive computer to drive their highly
- interactive 3D applications. It doesn't help, though, for the person looking
- an inexpensive desktop workstation who has a light 3D requirement.
