- Well, the way the TOC feature works is this: Whenever you do a "TOC",
- it merely writes a new ascii-text file of the table-of-contents. It
- does create a component for each of the entries, however, these masters
- are not dependant upon what was previously in the other TOC (as you
- have found out). What you need to do is this: Enter into the next
- realm of InterGrief Wizardry - CATALOGS!
-
- 1] create a catalog file (look it up in your books if you don't
- know how to do this)
-
- 2] physically place this catalog file just to the left of your TOC
- file
-
- 3] copy 1 of each of your components from the TOC into the catalog
- file and then format them the way you want. From this point on
- (assuming you are running the right license under InterGrief),
- the catalog now contains a "master" for the document. Now, even
- though you are creating a new text file every time you "TOC",
- your catalog file will override the component "defaults" in the
- new TOC file and replace their props with the ones from the
- master. This all seems pretty confusing, but it's really simple
- if you get the hang of it. Remember that the Catalog only works
- under certain licenses, and you must open (or resave from the
- desktop) your TOC file for the catalog to take effect. Make sure
- you look up the "EXPORTS" section on the catalog file's PROPS.
-
- NOTE: This also can be used for the headers and footers too!
-
- Catalogs are pretty neat, and you can even have multiple ones in the
- same file. I suggest that you mess around with one for a while, THEN
- read the manual. The manual(s) don't really make that much sense until
- you have a basic idea of what you are trying to accomplish. Also,
- catalogs can be used on ANY document file, so you can use them to set
- up masters for a whole book at one time.
-
- Hope this helps.
