- we are in Germany (Europe) and we have one license of Interleaf
- TPS Version 4. That's the status quo
-
- I called Interleaf (Germany) to ask for an upgrade from Version 4
- to Version 5. The answer was:
- "How many?"
- "One"
- "4500 DM (3000 US$) plus 821 DM (547 US$) for media plus 844 DM
- (562 US$) for documentation"
- That's a total of 6165 DM (4110 US$) for the upgrade, the
- *same* price as a new license.
- The salesperson told me that a discount is only possible with
- a larger number of licenses.
-
- Is there no upgrade path for universities ?
-
- I remember someone on the net saying that a license in the US
- is 300 US$ including media and independant of the hardware
- platform.
-
- What kind of University support is this over here anyway ?
-
- The PC version of Interleaf comes *much* cheaper. It is
- 770 DM (513 US$) for the license, 450 DM (300 US$) for the
- media (disks of gold ?) and 143 DM (95 US$) for the
- documentation.
-
- Since the docu for the workstation is 6 times as expensive
- as the docu for the PC, I guess it holds 6 times more
- valuable information (keeping in mind that the software
- has identical functions - BTW, the license is 6 times as
- expensive, too).
-
- So what's this all about ? What *does* a US University pay ?

- Well, I recently purchased InterLeaf for a DECStation workstation, and it is
- for my department in the University here.
-
- We paid $300.00 for 4 TK50 media tapes and the Full set of documentation.
- One license.
-
- Support for a year is of $400.00+ though.
