  27.    we are in Germany (Europe) and we have one license of Interleaf
  28.    TPS Version 4. That's the status quo

  30.    I called Interleaf (Germany) to ask for an upgrade from Version 4
  31.    to Version 5. The answer was:
  32.    "How many?"
  33.    "One"
  34.    "4500 DM (3000 US$) plus 821 DM (547 US$) for media plus 844 DM
  35.     (562 US$) for documentation"
  36.    That's a total of 6165 DM (4110 US$) for the upgrade, the 
  37.    *same* price as a new license.
  38.    The salesperson told me that a discount is only possible with
  39.    a larger number of licenses.

  41.    Is there no upgrade path for universities ?

  43.    I remember someone on the net saying that a license in the US
  44.    is 300 US$ including media and independant of the hardware
  45.    platform.

  47.    What kind of University support is this over here anyway ?

  49.    The PC version of Interleaf comes *much* cheaper. It is
  50.    770 DM (513 US$) for the license, 450 DM (300 US$) for the
  51.    media (disks of gold ?) and 143 DM (95 US$) for the
  52.    documentation.

  54.    Since the docu for the workstation is 6 times as expensive
  55.    as the docu for the PC, I guess it holds 6 times more
  56.    valuable information (keeping in mind that the software
  57.    has identical functions - BTW, the license is 6 times as
  58.    expensive, too).

  60.    So what's this all about ? What *does* a US University pay ?

  75. Well, I recently purchased InterLeaf for a DECStation workstation, and it is
  76. for my department in the University here.

  78. We paid $300.00 for 4 TK50 media tapes and the Full set of documentation.
  79. One license.

  81. Support for a year is of $400.00+ though.
