  13. we are in Germany (Europe) and we have one license of Interleaf
  14. TPS Version 4. That's the status quo
  15.  
  16. I called Interleaf (Germany) to ask for an upgrade from Version 4
  17. to Version 5. The answer was:
  18. "How many?"
  19. "One"
  20. "4500 DM (3000 US$) plus 821 DM (547 US$) for media plus 844 DM
  21.  (562 US$) for documentation"
  22. That's a total of 6165 DM (4110 US$) for the upgrade, the 
  23. *same* price as a new license.
  24. The salesperson told me that a discount is only possible with
  25. a larger number of licenses.

  27. Is there no upgrade path for universities ?

  29. I remember someone on the net saying that a license in the US
  30. is 300 US$ including media and independant of the hardware
  31. platform.

  33. What kind of University support is this over here anyway ?

  35. The PC version of Interleaf comes *much* cheaper. It is
  36. 770 DM (513 US$) for the license, 450 DM (300 US$) for the
  37. media (disks of gold ?) and 143 DM (95 US$) for the
  38. documentation.

  40. Since the docu for the workstation is 6 times as expensive
  41. as the docu for the PC, I guess it holds 6 times more
  42. valuable information (keeping in mind that the software
  43. has identical functions - BTW, the license is 6 times as
  44. expensive, too).

  46. So what's this all about ? What *does* a US University pay ?
