- I have some questions (on behalf of my sister-in-law; I'm a Mac type
- myself.) She has a Tandy 600 laptop, about 7 years old, and would like
- to use it with a modem. It seems to have an onboard 300baud modem, which
- uses an acoustic coupler, and an RS232 port in back which I presume could
- be hooked up to a faster external modem. Is this correct? Would your average
- back of the magazine-type modem work with her computer? There's also a
- question of software; her computer has a very minimal operating system,
- in which the operation of the modem is done from within the word processor.
- I tired unsuccesfully to get the computer to drive a borrowed 1200 baud
- modem; the most common error message was something along the lines of
- "communications error".
-
- Any advice or pointers would be greatly appreciated. One last point I
- forgot is that this is taking place in Paris--could this perhaps affect
- the way the communications software interacts with the telephone.
- Thanks--Daniel Ruberman
