- Incorrect. Most dynamically linked executables are supposed to work.
- Exceptions are programs that have hard-coded paths to system files (e.g.
- many files in /etc are different, /usr/etc has a different name) and
- programs that access kernel data structures.

-
- All Sun SPARC-based systems are 4/XXX (e.g. Sun-4/60 is another name for
- the Sparcstation 1). I believe the correct characterization is that 2.0
- will support the sun4c and sun4m kernel architectures.

-
- No one is forcing you to upgrade right away. Sun fully expects
- heterogeneous sites like these to wait until 2.1 is released. Many of us
- are planning on waiting for it just because we're familiar with the
- problems of running a *.0 release.

- I haven't heard anything about this either way.

-
- They apparently had the choice of making everyone wait for a version of
- Solaris 2 that supports all the architectures, or let an initial version
- out that will work for some architectures. In particular, many customers
- with MP systems would really like the new release as soon as possible,
- because it's expected to make more effective use of multiple processors.
