- | We recently acquired a few HP workstations
- | and now I have a couple questions.
- | I apologize if my questions have been answered
- | in this forum before, but I've only recently begun to
- | peruse the HP newsgroup.
- |
- |
- | 1) I am unable to get HP clients (e.g.: hpterm or more importantly
- | HP-VUE itself) to display their output
- | on a Sun running OpenWin (version 2 or 3). If I wait long
- | enough, however, the HP developed client eventually pops up
- | a window on the Sun server, and works as advertised.
- | Long enough is usually more then 10 minutes. Unfortunately,
- | HP-VUE itself never comes up, at least not over a 3 day weekend ;-).
-
-
- This problem is in the OW3.0 X11/NeWS server and has been reported to Sun.
- The Sun bug id# is 1076332.
-
- Tools using the HP Motif 1.1 library hang for 15 minutes when they attempt
- to connect to the server supplied with OpenWindows 3.0. This problem does
- not occur with the MIT X11R4 server or the OpenWindows 2.0 X11/NeWS server.
-
- Setting the following resource in the X11/NeWS server will resolve
- this problem:
-
- <client>*useColorObj: false
-
- NOTE: This workaround is not supported. It may cease to prevent the
- problem in the future.
-
- If the SAIC VUE product is also being used under OpenWindows 3.0, this
- resource may cause the VUE colors to behave incorrectly on any tool for
- which the useColorObj resource was set to "false". Therefore it is
- recommended that this resource only be set in the OpenWindows 3.0 X11/NeWS
- server and only for those tools which are using the HP Motif1.1 library
- AND are displayed on the OpenWindows 3.0 X11/NeWS server (until Sun
- provides a patch to fix this bug).
-
- FYI:
- You can get VUE running natively on Sun (under the X11/NeWS or MIT servers)
- from SAIC (Science Applications Internaltional Corp) in San Diego CA.
