- We have a couple of HP plotters, a Draftmaster II and a 7475A connected to
- a Sun Sparcstation 2. We have the proper queues set up for each, and they
- plot correctly given an appropriate file. The problem we are facing is
- that when the HP7475 plotter finishes a job, it will not stop. It will
- continue immediately to the next output job. The Draftmaster has a special
- 'NR' (not-ready) code that prevents this; the queue handler sends this
- halt-code after each job. Alas, a thorough examination of the programmer's
- manual reveals that the NR command doesn't exist for the 7475.
-
- Is there a simple, elegant way to manage the queue without involving an
- operator on the server? Sticking in a sleeper segment isn't practical;
- jobs might arrive when paper is not loaded, jobs that aren't attended
- promptly will get overwritten, and overly long delays can take their toll
- on users as a dozen jobs remain backed up in the queue.
-
- Looking for a happy medium,
- Eric
