- Several weeks ago I tried to repair a block on my disk without
- having to format the disk and reload the software.
- I used the repair option of the format command.
- But lo and behold the same block keeps failing again. This leaves me
- with the following questions:
- 1. What does repair actually do?
- 2. After you repair do you have as a separate operation
- add the block to the defect list using the defect option
- of format?
- 3. The defective block is in the root partition and it must be
- in a program that is used often enough to cause frequent
- failure. What will happen to that program if I add the block to
- the defect list.
- 4. Is there a way to tell what program includes that block?
