- I've had nothing but problems with sendmail.mx! If there are
- any sendmail gurus out there, I'd love to hear from them.
-
- I have two Sparc 2 machines running SunOS 4.1.2. One is
- the NIS server and the other is the client.
-
- I also have one Sparc mounting its /usr/spool/mail to the
- NIS server to keep mail on all machines the same. More hosts
- will be added soon.
-
- These two (for now) make up by NIS domain. I am also within the
- subdomain called ee.washington.edu. There are more than one
- NIS (YP) domains in this subdomain.
-
- I was confused about which *.cf file to install (either the
- subsidiary or main) so I installed the subsidiary. I followed
- by example from other machines in my department. Also, since
- ee.washington.edu is a nameserver and main mail machine, I
- thought that this was the most appropriate.
-
- Anyway, everything seemed to work fine, but after making some
- changes to the sendmail.cf file I noticed that it was tacking
- on my NIS domainname at the end of the email address (in the
- header) and this was causing excessive bouncing between my
- machines and the nameserver. Someone was kind enough to tell
- me that this notation was very wrong. Not only that, but it was starting
- NOT to recognize regular users of the machines.
-
- All I changed in the .cf file was:
-
- DRedison.ee.washington.edu
- CRedison.ee.washington.edu
-
- because edison (ee.washington.edu) is the main mail host for
- our subdomain.
-
- Anyway, I got sick of screwing around with this sendmail.cf file
- and went to a ftp site and got another file which I thought might
- work better from our Computing and Communications group. I won't
- include my new sendmail.cf file unless some ambitious person mails
- me.
-
- The new *.cf file fixed my NIS domain problem, but now I have a
- new one and no debugging features seem to help this one.
-
- When I mail between the two local machines, I get a bounce back
- saying 550 (or 554) Internal error... with no explanation of what
- the error was. I even ran sendmail with the -v option, but it didn't
- say anything nasty. The mail gets sent, but bounces after it gets
- there.
-
- Note: I CAN send between the two machines if I use the FULLY QUALIFIED
- HOSTNAME. I do not need to use the fully qualified hostname
- to send out of my subdomain or NIS domain.
-
- As you may know, *.cf files are a pain in the butt to construct so if
- someone can help me fix the Sun one, that'd be great. Otherwise, maybe
- if a UW person also has a file similar to mine on a Sun, they could help
- me figure out this new file.
-
- Thanks in advance.
