- Hello to all the Unix sysadmin gurus out there...well I'd better explain my
- situation. As part of a project through NASA/NREN, our school was selected
- in January to become an Internet site, to see how high school students can
- communicate with people who normally are in college or are professionals. At
- first, we had a site situated at the Ames Research Center, warren.arc.nasa.gov,
- but in March we got a Sun 3/60 for one of the first high school internet sites,
- walrus.mvhs.edu. The problem is, this Sun has been inactive for a year or more
- and had been improperly configured for use on the Internet. It also came with
- no manuals. I had been selected to be system administrator, and currently my
- only reference is the Unix System Administration Handbook by Evi Nemeth, Garth
- Snyder, and Scott Seebass.
-
- Up to the present, I have been trying to fix up mail and set up readnews on
- our system, with the help of others. However, they are professionals themselves
- and usually too busy to attend to us at the exact moment a problem springs up.
- I would like to know if anyone out there has a spare set of Sun manuals that
- they may donate to us. We are in DESPERATE need of them, as my guesses will
- probably fail and we don't even have distribution tapes or a backup medium if
- a problem arises. If that isn't possible, I would like to know if you can help
- me out when a problem does arise. I already have a couple names, and I thank
- you for all the help you have given me.
