  11. I've bought a Introl Magneto-optical drive and also
  12. recently got my R4000 upgrade. So the computer is now a
  13.  
  14. "Power Series R4000-50 GTX"

  16. However, it appears that I got two problems:

  18. 1) when connecting to SCSI ctrl#1 the startup of the machine
  19. works fine.  hinv gives the info that optical drive is installed
  20. at ctrl#0 and unit#4 (correct!)
  21. The drivers are installed properly but formatting the
  22. disk with the command:

  24. fx -x "dksc(1,4)"
  25.  
  26. results in a crash of the computer giving the message:
  27.  
  28. PANIC: kern_free free ptr @ oxco172000 block @ oxcoo172CFC already free
  29.  
  30. dumping to dev ox1621 at block 138298, numpages 8191
  31. ..............................................................

  33. dump completed
  34. [press reset to restart machine]

  36. also with updated software of Introl I got this problem.

  42. Then I tried to use the ctrl#0 and made the connection to the drive.
  43. The system then holds at the power-up test and instead of:
  44.  
  45. "Data and Instruction Caches            PASSED"
  46.  
  47. I get:

  49. "Data and Instruction Caches            Secondary I + D cache"
  50.  
  51. and the power-up holds (=fails!) 
  52.  
  53. So I can't use ctrl#0 with the drive and I don't know why power-up
  54. does not fail with ctrl#1. This second ctrl comes with the R4000
  55. upgrade.

  57. I must mention that people at Introl are working on the problem and
  58. hope to test it with a R4000 machine. 
  59. They are officially not supporting the R4000 yet and unfortunately I've
  60. not seen any messages of problems yet.  Is this the first and only???
