- I've bought a Introl Magneto-optical drive and also
- recently got my R4000 upgrade. So the computer is now a
-
- "Power Series R4000-50 GTX"
-
- However, it appears that I got two problems:
-
- 1) when connecting to SCSI ctrl#1 the startup of the machine
- works fine. hinv gives the info that optical drive is installed
- at ctrl#0 and unit#4 (correct!)
- The drivers are installed properly but formatting the
- disk with the command:
-
- fx -x "dksc(1,4)"
-
- results in a crash of the computer giving the message:
-
- PANIC: kern_free free ptr @ oxco172000 block @ oxcoo172CFC already free
-
- dumping to dev ox1621 at block 138298, numpages 8191
- ..............................................................
-
- dump completed
- [press reset to restart machine]
-
- also with updated software of Introl I got this problem.
-
-
- 2)
-
-
- Then I tried to use the ctrl#0 and made the connection to the drive.
- The system then holds at the power-up test and instead of:
-
- "Data and Instruction Caches PASSED"
-
- I get:
-
- "Data and Instruction Caches Secondary I + D cache"
-
- and the power-up holds (=fails!)
-
- So I can't use ctrl#0 with the drive and I don't know why power-up
- does not fail with ctrl#1. This second ctrl comes with the R4000
- upgrade.
-
- I must mention that people at Introl are working on the problem and
- hope to test it with a R4000 machine.
- They are officially not supporting the R4000 yet and unfortunately I've
- not seen any messages of problems yet. Is this the first and only???
-
-
- I hope that there will be a solution for the problem.
-
- I'm starting my vacation right now so please respond by email because at
- the time I'm back your response may be erased from the newsgroup.
