  11. I am preparing an Indigo for shipping to a new site and after removing what
  12. I thought were all the necessary links to the rest of the (old) world and
  13. setting it up for stand-alone use, I have a problem with logging in.  When
  14. I use pandora (/etc/config/visuallogin = "on"), I can enter a userid and
  15. password, but the screen goes to the light-blue background for a second,
  16. and then I am back at pandora.  I tried setting up ids with no password,
  17. and lots of other things but to no avail.

  19. The weird thing is that if I turn visuallogin off (by starting system from
  20. PROM in single user mode, then mounting disk, then running chkconfig, and
  21. then rebooting), I can run the system just fine with manual login.  But if
  22. try to have visuallogin, I am dead in the water again.

  24. This system is running Irix 4.0.1 and worked fine as part of the network.
  25. Changes made were in things like /etc/hosts, /etc/passwd, /etc/groups,
  26. /etc/init.d/network.local, /etc/fstab, /etc/exports, and
  27. /usr/etc/resolv.conf just to decouple the machine from the old network
  28. before moving it.
