  30. | Suggestion:  For the love of sanity, Someone PLEASE compile a comprehesive
  31. |              index for the hardbound manual sets with each (major) system
  32. |              release.

  34. For the man pages there is apropos, which does a pretty good job
  35. (after you run /usr/lib/makewhatis).  For the other manuals, I've
  36. been yelling about *useful* indexs for a while.  The pubs folks have
  37. the message, and I think things are (slowly) improving as manuals
  38. are redone.  That still doesn't help if you don't know what manual
  39. to look at though.  The online (CD based, although it could be copied
  40. to a hard disk) documention product that is being worked on should 
  41. help for this though (and no, it emphaticaly does *not* replace the
  42. hard copy manuals, although some of us had to fight for that).
