- I just tried to connect an Apple Personal LaserWriter NTR to an
- Indigo via the serial port. Have you done this successfully? Is there
- some trick that I'm missing?
- The problem is that I'm simply not getting any response from the
- printer. Jobs appear in the print queue and dissappear after a few
- minutes, but nothing prints.
- I selected "generic Postscript" and software handshaking in the "Add
- Printer" dialog. I switched the printer from AppleTalk (its default
- setting) to RS-422 9600, but I don't know if I should use the 7 or 8 bit
- settings, or "binary protocol". The printer manual doesn't explain the
- different protocols, and the Indigo owners guide only tells me what kind
- of cable I need.
- One funny thing is that I first connected the printer to serial port 1,
- but the Print Tool wouldn't let me add the printer there, claiming that
- there was already a terminal on port 1, which there isn't. I decided not
- to argue and switched the printer to port 2, and there were no complaints.
- This is on an entry Indigo running IRIX 4.0.3, if it matters.
-
- Thanks for all and any advice.
