- I run my PC as an X server on a 286! The X server program runs
- in Windows and it is called Xvision. It allows a blending of
- Windows and X. It is definately not junk. Simple things like xterms,
- xclocks, epoch (or emacs), xedit, ghostview etc. run fine. I have
- also run more advanced things like Wingz, Frame, and even Explorer
- on it. Performance for these? Well, it's a 286. Wingz is alright,
- Frame pushes the limits of patience depending upon what you want to
- do, Explorer is unusable. However, based on the performance
- that I get with a 286, I can't imagine that a 486 wouldn't be totally
- great for any of these! The caveat I should mention is that for the
- more advanced things like Frame you really need 1024x768 resolution
- with a 17" monitor to be totally comfortable. Also, you probably want
- a graphics accelerator board as well.
