  19. Sounds like they are on the tape with a full pathname.  See man
  20. tar, and in particular, the 'R' option.  Note that if a file is
  21. on the tape as /a/b/c, and you want to extract just that file,
  22. then with the R option, you specify it as tar xR ./a/b/c
