- | Does SGI support a DAT drive for the 4D/35? Is it the same as the DAT for
- | the Indigo? Does it also support DDS and audio?
-
- Not officially. There were plans to use the same drive, but in a
- bracket to 5 1/4" form factor. I don't know if this is still in
- process, or has been dropped. From a software point of view, it
- definitely works (I did all the DAT software development on a 35
- with such a bracket).
-
- | Does Indigo StarterVideo only work on an entry level Indigo, or will it
- | also work on a 4D/35?
-
- Only with starter graphics on an Indigo.
-
- | We have a 4D/20 with a 580mb (?) hard disk from SGI and a QIC 150 tape
- | drive. Will these work if we disconnect them from the 4D/20, keep them in
- | a separate chassis, and connect them to the external SCSI port of an
- | Indigo?
-
- Yes, they should. The 20 did have worse SCSI throughput, so it is
- possible the move will show up firmware problems in the drive. SGI
- has never sold a 580 Mbyte (formatted or unformatted) drive that
- I have ever heard of. The QIC-150 Archive drive is sold in an external
- enclosure for the Indigo, with the same firmware, so it should be fine.
-
- | What is the performance of entry graphics on an r4000 Indigo/rpc50? Is
- | it the same as for entry graphics on a Crimson (375k vect, 36k tri, 10k
- | poly)?
-
- It should be a bit better, but I haven't seen final numbers. There wasn't
- as much time as there could have been for tuning the inner loops of
- the starter GL code for crimson, but it has been done for the r4k Indigo.
-
- | Previous postings listed the price (starting August 1st) of an r3000
- | Indigo/rpc (with 16mb instead of 8mb) as entry:$7,995 (no change) and
- | xs:$11,495 (was $13,000). Are there any prices changes for the xs24
- | and elan?
-
- No idea, sorry.
