  12. I wanted to let everyone on the comp.sys.sgi net know about some of the 
  13. events happening at SIGGRAPH '92 next week relating to OpenGL.
  14.  
  15. OpenGL Technology Demonstration
  16. Show Floor - Tuesday-Thursday
  17.  
  18. There will be seven companies demonstrating OpenGL and IRIS GL
  19. running on a variety of PC and workstation based platforms.
  20. SGI, IBM, and DEC will be demonstrating OpenGL 1.0 in their
  21. respective booths.  DEC will run an OpenGL interoperability demo
  22. connecting a DECStation to an IRIS Indigo.  DuPont Pixel Systems
  23. will show IRIS GL for Sun SPARCStations.  Nth Graphics will demo
  24. IRIS GL running on SPARCStations and HP Series 700 workstations.
  25. Interestingly, HP will have Nth in their SIGGRAPH booth, and Sun 
  26. will have both Nth and DuPont running IRIS GL in their booth.  
  27. In the SGI booth, we will demo OpenGL running under IRIX on a
  28. Blackjack Starter, and under Windows NT.

  30. OpenGL Special Interest Group
  31.  
  32. The Special Interest Group meeting for OpenGL will be Wednesday 
  33. afternoon from 2-4PM in Room M-1 of the Convention Center. Refreshments
  34. served!

  36. 3D Graphics Standards Panel Debate:  OpenGL vs PEX
  37. Friday 8:45AM - 10:15AM

  39. This should prove to be a lively discussion!  Moderator Jim 
  40. Foley from Georgia Tech hosts Kurt Akeley from SGI, Marty Hess 
  41. from Sun, Jeff Stevenson from HP, Murray Cantor from IBM, and
  42. Mark Goldstein from SDRC in a lively panel debate on the
  43. technical and non technical merits of these competing
  44. technologies.  Please come to the debate - all OpenGL
  45. supporters attending receive a free OpenGL t-shirt to wear
  46. at the debate.

  48. We are very excited about the support OpenGL is receiving in the
  49. PC and workstation markets as an multiplatform industry standard,
  50. and would be glad to see everyone visit the SGI booth to 
  51. learn more about OpenGL!
