- There is NO byte orientation problem between SGI systems and Macs. My doc
- department is moving 100s of xwd screen dumps processed by pbmplus and imgtools
- from our SGI boxes to Macs daily (over Ethernet). Systems such as 3B1, 3B2,
- HP-9000/{300, 700, 800}-series, Sun-{2, 3, 4}, CTIX/Unisys, Motorola, SGI, Mac,
- Amiga, etc. are all big-endian architectures between which even binary double-
- precision floating-point numbers are compatible. The only incompatibility I
- can conceive would be that imposed by specific data alignment constraints.
-
- Zmodem works between our Macs and Suns; haven't tried it between the Macs and
- SGI boxes simply because none of our SGI boxes are on modems. And, to be
- clear, our Macs are running A/UX [ the ones between which file transfers are
- being done ; the files are then copied to a Mac floppy for transfer to the
- machines used by the doc department ].
-
- It isn't clear from your post precisely what problem you're experiencing;
- you MAY need to create a "resource" file for the files on the Mac. Programs
- such as ResEdit and ResCompare exist and are needed for the Mac; our doc
- dept uses Norton Utils (on the Mac) to create the needed "resource" file on
- the MacOS-based Macs so they can "use" the transerred files. I don't know
- the specifics 'cause I'm not a Mac-weenie! :-)
