  11. Well, I called NewQuest and asked for their information packet
  12. on the Academy; unfortunately, they seem much more interested
  13. in selling the Agenda personal organizer software for PC's,
  14. and the Frankin Quest Inc. paper-based organizer system
  15. that it complements.  The package I recieved is much more
  16. oriented towards the latter, and even included a demo copy
  17. of Agenda; only a single two-sided glossy sheet describes
  18. the Academy palmtop, apparently the same flyer that someone
  19. from HP typed in here a while back.

  21. Since I've never heard of this unit outside of this newsgroup,
  22. I'd be interested in hearing more feedback from
  23. actual users.  The particular questions I have are:
  24.  
  25. 1) Microwriting: how long did it take you to get comfortable
  26.    with doing it?  How fast can you type now?  I'd be particularly
  27.    interested in informed speed comparisons with conventional
  28.    QWERTY palmtops & organizers, as well as with full-size
  29.    or laptop QWERTY keyboards.

  31. 2) Can you comfortably Microwrite without looking?  Can you do
  32.    it with the unit in places other than a tabletop, such as
  33.    in your lap or on the car seat next to you?  (easier in US
  34.    than UK, I suppose).

  36. 3) How useful are the database/organizer functions?  The calculator?
  37.    Is the small screen a major drawback?  Again, informed comparisons 
  38.    to other palmtops & organizers would be great.

  40. 4) How easy is it to transfer files to a PC?  (I was pleased
  41.    to note that the unit comes with the serial cable and transfer
  42.    software included)

  44. Also, a question for anybody -- are there any other US sources
  45. for this unit, either as the original AgendA or the relabeled
  46. Academy?  NewQuest's letter quotes a list price of $599 for Academy,
  47. which is way too high for me, but the person on the phone said
  48. they would only be selling it directly (contrary to the glossy
  49. flyer, which claims it'll be in several store chains).  
  50. Has anybody in the US successfully ordered it from the UK?
  51. If so, what was your final cost, w/ shipping, etc.?

  53. Thanks in advance for any responses; I think some real experiences
  54. would be a welcome relief from all this patent debate ;-).
