- At boot time, I'm getting some strange error/warning messages on my console,
- such as
-
- Check-in service NetMessage
- Check-in port 13 for NetMessage
- Registering new service C library lookup
- Registering new port 102 for C library lookup
- Server midi linking /usr/lib/kernloader/Midi/midi_reloc against /mach
- Server midi loading executable "/mach" for linage base file
-
- I get this stuff about the time when /etc/rc is loading biod and ntpd. Also,
- in /tmp/console.log I get stuff like
-
- Jul 30 11:04:28 rincewind mach_init[2]: bootstrap_subset new bootstrap
- 839 unpriv 840
- Jul 30 11:04:28 rincewind mach_init[2]: Registered new service
- MailFetch_port
- Jul 30 11:04:28 rincewind mach_init[2]: Registering port 841 for
- service MailFetch_port
-
- None of these things seems to have had horrible consequences, though
- occasionally my machine seems to have trouble associating IP addresses with
- machine names. For instance, once my machine couldn't find my NNTP server
- based on it's name, but it worked fine when I gave it an IP address. Another
- time .rhosts wasn't working because my machine couldn't figure out the name of
- the machine I was rlogining in from. In both cases, /usr/etc/nslookup worked
- fine, so it wasn't the nameserver dying.
-
- I have installed nident and the new finger and fingerd, but both of those
- packages worked fine for several weeks before this mess started. I also
- recently installed a websterd package, but removing it doesn't fix the
- problem.
-
- Anyone have any idea(s) what the problem(s) might be?
-
