  21. I ran into this too.  I even sent a bug report to NeXT about it giving, in  
  22. great detail, the exact events which I thought had caused this behavior to  
  23. start for my userid.

  25. Based on the above I poked around a bit, switching between accounts and  
  26. playing with various defaults & stuff (via the DefaultMgr.app program  
  27. available on various FTP archives).  Turns out the answer is totally  
  28. unrelated to the detailed explanation I gave NeXT.

  30. In the Preferences application, switch to the panel that is all the way to  
  31. the right (the one for Unix expert preferences, the icon includes a  
  32. ribbon-like thing).  If you have set the preference "Large File System",  
  33. then the Workspace will *-not-* display the double-home icons for other  
  34. people's home directories.

  36. Apparently it assumes that "large file system" also means "large password  
  37. file", and it doesn't want to keep track of the home directories of every  
  38. user.  I only have a few users on my system, but I had "Large file system"  
  39. set because the machine is hooked up to the AFS world.
