- Hello,
- I have a NeXTstation with 2.1 at home. I occasionally take it
- in to the office at school to get nice ftp access. Recently when I
- logged out (at home) it had no idea who I was when I tried to log back
- in. I could log in as root, but my regular user name was not known. I
- checked NetInfoManager and all of the information about me was there.
- The same with UserManager. The owner of my directories and accounts
- was my Group ID.
- A knowledgable friend suggested I try 'nidump' into a file and
- then 'niload' back from the file. However, it would not let me do the
- niload. I can't remember the error message right now and, of course,
- I didn't right it down. Maybe something about can't make connection?
- The friend thought I might have a bad hostconfig file. He
- said that sometimes the system will deteriorate over time. While, I
- can't guarantee that the hostconfig is correct for a standalone machine,
- I can say that it does not look for the network when it boots up. Also,
- when I rebooted the machine the problem was fixed (temporarily, at
- least. :-)
- Does anyone have any ideas about this? or seen it before? I
- appreciate any help. Thank you.
