  26. It would be unwise to ignore them.  We had lots of problems with cable lengths
  27. on the two Interphase controllers we have on our MIPS 6280 (we gave up on SMD
  28. and have been much happier with SCSI, as CDC chose to do).  I would suggest
  29. that
  30.  
  31. - you reduce the cable lengths to the absolute minimum.  Specs for
  32.   single-ended SCSI say 6m, but anything much beyond 4m is asking for trouble
  33.   and even then we've seen problems with cables shorter still.
  34. - use good quality "twist-flat" cable
  35. - use terminating resistors on the last drive and provide terminator power
  36.   on that drive (don't do this on IBM RS/6000, though!).
  37. - very carefully shave ANY excess cable on the last connector (i.e. you wont
  38.   be able to add another device beyond it unless the drive itself has two
  39.   connectors, something I have only seen on 8 inch drives).
