- It would be unwise to ignore them. We had lots of problems with cable lengths
- on the two Interphase controllers we have on our MIPS 6280 (we gave up on SMD
- and have been much happier with SCSI, as CDC chose to do). I would suggest
- that

- - you reduce the cable lengths to the absolute minimum. Specs for
- single-ended SCSI say 6m, but anything much beyond 4m is asking for trouble
- and even then we've seen problems with cables shorter still.
- - use good quality "twist-flat" cable
- - use terminating resistors on the last drive and provide terminator power
- on that drive (don't do this on IBM RS/6000, though!).
- - very carefully shave ANY excess cable on the last connector (i.e. you wont
- be able to add another device beyond it unless the drive itself has two
- connectors, something I have only seen on 8 inch drives).
