- Does anyone have experience integrating an Exabyte 8500 tape drive with a
- Mips M/120? I am able to access the tape drive OK and can initiate a
- backup using "cpio | dd". When the backup completes (after dd reports the
- number of blocks in/out), the kernel panics with the message:
-
- PANIC: transfer mode not set
-
- After rebooting a check of the tape shows that the backup was written
- properly.
-
- A check of the source files in /usr/reconfig/io shows that this message
- comes from the procedure phase() in the file spc.c. I am not a SCSI guru
- and thus don't appreciate the significance of these routines.
-
- We are running RISC/os 4.52. I am told the 8500 is a SCSI-2 device. Could
- this have a bearing on this problem? Does the OS fully support this drive?
-
- Any information would be much appreciated.
