- I have been having a VERY frustrating time during file copies in the last
- few days and wonder if there is a new strain of a desktop-linked virus at
- our site.
- My machine: IIcx 8/80 with System 7.01 (tuned), INITS include Quickeys 2.12
- Norton's Suite of stuff, Behierarchic, AfterDark and AppSwitcher.
- The scenario is this:
- I erase a floppy disc - its desktop reads 1K in use, 779 free. I then try to
- copy a simply 50K PICT file from my hard drive to the floppy. One of two things
- happens; either the file takes about THREE minutes to copy and once there the
- file is 50K and the desktop is 92K (!!) -OR- the Finder bombs with an error
- number 41. This happens with a variety of files. I have tried Disinfectant
- 2.9 (it shows nothing), rebuilt the desktops of all discs I use, re-installed
- the System software etc. etc.
- When I look at the HUGE desktop with Norton I see the usual "ERIK" text, then
- a couple of words that say Translation, then a few patterns of A's and *'s.
- Nothing that looks predictable or virus-like.
- So, what gives ?? Do I have a hardware problem ? (this has also begun
- happening on a friend's MacPlus too !) OR, is there a NEW virus out there ??
- Anyone seen this ?!? I am going nuts trying to figure this out !!!!
-
- thanks for ANY help ! Jack
