- I have an external 105MB hard disk that no longer mounts when I start
- my Mac. It mounts easily upon request (using SCSI Probe) and works
- perfectly thereafter, it just doesn't automount.
-
- After mounting it once, it continues to mount. If I do a Restart, the
- disk mounts properly. If I do a Shut Down (this is a IIsi, which
- turns itself off when Shut Down), then restart my Mac, the disk
- mounts. It's only that first time that it doesn't mount.
-
- It isn't a spin-up problem. If I let the disk spin for 5 minutes
- before turning on the Mac, the disk still doesn't automount. Repeated
- Mac reboots won't make it automount.
-
- In short, the disk has to be "manually" mounted, one time only, after
- each time the _disk_ is turned off. Thereafter it works fine until
- the next time I turn off power to the disk.
-
- Rearranging the SCSI cables makes no difference. A disk test program
- reports no problems. Disk First Aid had a hard time finding the disk
- (it was mounted), but once found, it reported no problems.
-
- How do I solve this one? At this point I don't even have a clue
- whether it's hardware or software. The only thing I can think of to
- try is to rebuild System 7 and see if that fixes anything. Does
- anybody recognize these symptoms?
