- I complained about the following bug^H^H^H"feature" of ResEdit :-
-
- > Has anyone else been unable to use the graphical editor for a small
- >icon (ics#) resource on a monochrome Mac? My copy of ResEdit complains about
- >needing Color QuickDraw to edit it. Aren't ICN# and ics# meant to BE b&w?
-
-
- A kind fellow-countryman offered the following solution :-
-
- >o Create a small icon SICN (which is actually a list of them).
- >o Put two small icons in the list.
- >o Make the first one the icon and the second one the mask.
- >o Make sure you get it right 'cause it's a pain to change.
- >o Open the SICN using the hex editor, copy all the data.
- >o Create an ics# and open it using the hex editor.
- >o Paste the hex data in.
-
-
- I now offer a more optimal one :-
-
- Open "ResEdit" in ResEdit. Ignore the warnings about what you are doing.
- Open the "RMAP" resource picker.
- Select the one numbered 207, which should be called "ics#".
-
- From here, I suggest that you copy this resource, paste it into
- ResEdit Preferences, (in the System Folder {under Preferences in System 7})
- and then edit that, rather than editing the ResEdit application itself.
-
- Open RMAP 207's resource editor.
- Change the field which is labeled "MapTo" from "icl8" to "SICN".
- Save the file (either ResEdit or ResEdit Preferences) by closing it.
-
-
- You may now edit your small icons on a monochrome machine.
