- 1) What are the BEST Technical References for Mac programming ..
- especially ones that covers the System 7 API.
-
- Inside Mac, volumes I, II, IV, V and VI. Note that I and II often are
- wrong these days, but still provide the necessary base. The new
- stuff in System 7 is in VI (which has stuff for system 6 as well)
-
- 2) What is the BEST C compiler to program the Mac in.. we currently
- have Think C Version 4.0 (I just unwrapped it last week) and
- was annoyed to find it was non-ANSI (it was dated 1989 so I was
- not surprised). is the latest version (6.0??) ANSI?
-
- Think C 5.0 is pretty decent (comes with good class library) and
- is ANSI. 6.0 is on it's way and supposed to be C++ as well, but
- not out yet.
-
- MPW C is better because it shows many error messages at the same
- time, but it's so SLOOOOW !
-
- 3) What are the BEST books covering Mac Networking both at the user level
- and programming level.
-
- Well, AppleTalk Programmers Manual, and Inside Mac.
-
- 4) Are there any books that describe Apple's QuickTime extension for programmers.
-
- Yes, the QuickTime documentation (about the size of IM VI, i.e.
- 10 pounds or so :-)
-
- 5) What are the advantages of registering as a Apple Developer??.. how much
- more information can you get?
-
- You get a CD every month with the very latest info online, and
- you may get better support from Apple. If you don't have the
- dough ($350 or $600 ?) you can subscribe to _develop_ at $30/year
- and get every third CD in it...
-
- 6) What magazines are oriented towards programming the Macintosh and assume more
- than a 'dumb user'.
-
- _develop_ and MacTutor come to mind.
