  13. A major speed problem with the default Kermit protocol is the amount of time
  14. that the sender has to wait between when it finishes an outgoing packet and
  15. when it receives an acknowledgement for that packet.  If you watch your modem
  16. lights, you will often see that they are OFF (waiting) about half the time.

  18. The fix for this is to get a newer version of Kermit that supports what they
  19. call "windows" (which has nothing to do with what Mac people call "windows").
  20. If you set your windows to five or six, you can often increase your throughput
  21. by 100% or more.

  23. Unfortunately, I don't know of a Mac program that supports Kermit "windows".
