- A major speed problem with the default Kermit protocol is the amount of time
- that the sender has to wait between when it finishes an outgoing packet and
- when it receives an acknowledgement for that packet. If you watch your modem
- lights, you will often see that they are OFF (waiting) about half the time.

- The fix for this is to get a newer version of Kermit that supports what they
- call "windows" (which has nothing to do with what Mac people call "windows").
- If you set your windows to five or six, you can often increase your throughput
- by 100% or more.

- Unfortunately, I don't know of a Mac program that supports Kermit "windows".
