  12. Recently I downloaded more than one thousand files to my hard disk
  13. for temporary storage. Later I save them on floppies and delete them 
  14. from my hard disk. Then I discover about 400K of my hard disk space is
  15. gone for the catalog file by running MacTools 2.0. I know as the number
  16. of files of my hard disk increases, the size of the catalog/extent file
  17. will grow. What I do not understand is as the number of files of my hard
  18. disk decreases, these files do not shrink in size.

  20. I know one method to recover those disk space: erase the hard disk and
  21. restore the files. But I certainly do not want to do it.
