- Here's the situation:
-
- We are looking for a library which will provide us with the ability to
- generate bar codes. If you have used a product that provides this kind
- of mechanism, please send email with your opinions regarding the product.
- If you could comment on the following items below, that would be very
- helpful too. If there is sifficient interest, I will post a summary of
- all letters I receive.
-
- The following attributes are desirable:
-
- 1) The code be in the form of a C language library. Some companies offer a
- stand alone application which our programs can communicate with via temporary
- files or other mechanisms. This is not acceptable as we are porting to many
- platforms and don't want to rely on a company porting their application to
- all the platforms we intend to support.
-
- 2) Source code would be preferrable, but is not a requirement. We would like
- to be able to have complete control over this function so C source code
- would be nice. Once again, this goes back to the portability problem and
- how we do not want to rely on a company porting to all the platforms we do.
- If a binary library is available for MS-Windows, Macintosh and Unix/Motif
- then we could give it a go since those are the major platforms we plan to
- support initially.
-
- 3) Money is an issue. We would prefer it if this library could be had for
- less than $100. If there is a royalty charge then that would also dismiss
- the package as a potential solution.
-
- I guess that's about it. Thank you for reading and I hope to hear from
- everyone who has experimented with bar code printing in their own programs.
-
- Thanks,
-
