-
- Um, no, because when we need to do net stuff on the PC, I effectively
- have to uninstall the CD-ROM and reinstall the Ethernet drivers. It's
- not a one-time thing...because then someone wants to use the CD-ROM again.

-
- Better Example:
- We have a sitewide email system based on our Sun, using POP3. One of
- the things I do is connect Macs and PCs to this.
-
- Connecting a Mac:
- 1) install and configure MacTCP.
- 2) install and configure Eudora.
- 3) show the user how to do simple Eudora stuff, and where the Balloon
- Help menu is :-)
-
- Connecting a PC:
- 1) explain that the user can't use the CD-ROM drive if they want to get email.
- 2) install and configure the Ethernet card.
- 3) install a packet driver for said card.
- 4) install some PC POP client, and try to explain that F1 doesn't mean
- help like it does in WordPerfect, so they need to use shift-alt-H.
- 5) tear out hair.
-
- This is hypothetical, because we simply don't get PCs for people to use;
- however, it shows that if you're using an interoperable mail standard,
- it's easier to set up the Mac. (Even when PC-Eudora comes out, it'll
- still be much simpler to set up TCP/IP on the Mac...)
