- I think that I can tell you what the problem is. If you don't have a direct
- ethernet connection to the mainframe in your office, and end up running through
- MacTCP then the problem lies in the fact that you probably don't have a fixed
- IP addresse for your name. What Apple does in ftp.apple.com is to check your
- email address (that you give them for a passwaord) against the Internet nameserver.
- The upshot of this is that if you do not have an assigned IP addresse for your
- Mac, and let MacTCP do it dynamicaly (sp?) you will not be able to get on, I've tried.
- However, if your talk to your system aministrator and have then assign you an IP
- address (that you then enter in MacTCP), and then hook your email addresse to that
- on the local nameserver you should be able to get on with no problem.
- This explains why he (above) can get on with his Sun, and not his Mac (I think)
