- Your argument depends on the assumption that the defining aspect of Newton is its
- ability to accept input from a pen. According to everything I have seen written
- or spoken by Apple, this assumption is incorrect. The defining aspect of Newton is,
- if I may be so bold as to speak for Apple, its complete break with existing
- operating systems and user interface paradigms. Newton will apparently bear little
- if any resemblance not only to Macintosh, Windows, and their kin, but also PenPoint,
- Momenta, and their kin. Therefore, to lump Newton in with these operating systems
- seems clumsy at best.
-
- I am strongly in favor of a separate newsgroup for Newton. Given the number of
- announced and rumored competitive systems (Microsoft/Sony, Tandy/GeoWorks, et. al.),
- a comp.sys.pda group which could later grow into comp.sys.pda.newton and others
- would seem to make the most sense.
