- Well, after using Directory Assistance II for several weeks (part of the
- Norton Utilities 2 package), I am giving up on it and going back to
- Directory Assistance I. Some times it is very nice, but other times it
- is a royal pain. Three main complaints:
-
- 1. It is slow. Every time an "Open" or "Save" dialog is invoked, it takes
- several seconds longer before the dialog finally appears.
-
- 2. When the dialog finally appears, I frequently ask myself "Where am I?"
- (This is particularly true when using DAs.) It is very confusing to
- have the dialog default to the inside of different folders. With
- Directory Assistance I, I always knew exactly where I was. Not so with II.
-
- 3. When I am trying to save a document and I finally reach the correct folder,
- frequently a sub-folder is selected. That means that when I hit return
- to save that document, instead of saving the document it merely opens up
- the sub-folder, forcing me to back out of the sub-folder and try to
- save the document again.
-
- All in all, I consider Directory Assistance II to be a major leap backwards,
- and I feel sorry for any novice Mac users who find themselves on Macs where
- it is installed. I love Directory Assistance I (to "View by Date" within
- a dialog is wonderful, allowing you to easily find the files most recently
- worked on); but Directory Assistance II is a giant leap toward bloated
- confusion.
-
- I am sticking with Directory Assistance I.
