- We digress from the subject, but I had assumed that an extension called
- Desktop Reset(tm) which was installed on my IIsi was the source of the
- desktop rebuilding capability. I have tried the key combination on
- another mac and found it to be inherent in system 7 - learn something new
- everyday.
-
- It took me a few minutes to rebuild when I had only 20MB of stuff, but now
- that I have 75MB of 1800+ files on it, it takes about six minutes to do
- solely the desktop rebuilding, but I only rebuild the desktop when I
- have a problem (i.e. icons not working properly, extensions not working
- properly, virus detected, etc.). As a result the total time spent
- tracking down a problem, which may include reinstalling the system and/or
- rebuilding the desktop, would take me at least half a day.
-
- The original reason for the post you pointed out was to point out that
- the same amount of time "fiddling" with a PC would be spent "fiddling"
- with a mac. Because of this, saying that PCs require more labor is not
- totally correct, and the price of labor is not significant in comparing
- cost between a PC and a mac.
