- In article <1992Jul21.184743.21503@gordian.com> you write:
- >I am looking for a Times font version of the accented characters
- >of the French character set - for example, the e's with the caret
- >and accents above them, and the "c" with the tail.
- >They aren't anywhere I can see with KeyCaps

- You already have the capability to print these characters using your Mac.
- If you are using System 6.x, using keycaps won't show you which keys are
- the accents, but if you use System 7, keycaps will put a dark border around
- those keys which can be used with other characters to create the accents
- you are looking for. The trick is to combine the accent with the letter to
- produce one character. For example, the letter "e" with an acute accent "'"
- is produced by pressing <option>"e", and then "e". The <option>"e" produces
- an acute accent, but won't show it until you choose a letter to go with it.
- A list of accents follows: (remember that most of these must go with the
- character it usually goes with, for example ^z results in exactly that).
-
- acute accent <option> e
- grave accent <option> <backquote>
- circumflex or caret(^) <option> i
- umlat (turned:) <option> u
- tilde (~) <option> n
-
- Fortunately for you, there is a single key that represents a cedilla.
-
- cedilla (c) <option> c
-
- If you have more character needs (or are bored), explore Keycaps by holding
- down some combination of the Shift, Option, and Control keys. The most exotic
- characters can be found with <option>+<Shift>. For even more fun, try looking
- at the Symbol set, or Zapf Dingbats this way. Of course, not all the
- characters are standard for every font, and not all keys are always defined,
- so make sure the character you are looking for exists in the specific font
- you will be using.
-
- Neat symbols to impress your friends with (most fonts)
-
- trademark(tm) <option> 2
- registered (r) <option> r
- copyright(c) <option> g
- Apple's apple <option> <shift> k-- will only print on Apple printers
- fi ligature <option> <shift> 5
- fl ligature <option> <shift> 6
- em dash <option> <shift>
- reverse double quote <option> [
-
- Good luck, and have fun.
