- I have been waiting in vain for someone to post the text of the MacWeek
- article, so I went to my local Mac dealer today (J & R Computer World, NYC).
- The salesman told me that the 145 is a 140 with "the guts" of a 170 , i.e. a
- 25 MHz 68030. Of course, this means a Supertwist display, instead of an
- active matrix. He didn't know about the FPU. He also said that J & R would
- be expecting them in about two weeks, and that they would probably sell for
- around $2600 (the previous going rate for the 140). Meanwhile, the 140 has
- been discounted to $1699 for the 2/40 (the above $2699 price, I believe, was
- for a 4/40 145.) The 170 will NOT be discounted and continue to be sold for
- $3599 for the 4/40/fax-modem. By comparison, the 100 is currently going for
- $1099 for the 2/20/ext. drive, and for $979 without the drive.
- Hope this is some help for those who have been as news-starved as I
- have been. Please, somebody, tell us about the rumored goodies coming to
- us, in the future, from Apple. Is there going to be color, expandability?
- Oh, before I forget, the above prices are NOT available by mail
- order from J & R, as all their ads state "Macintosh Available In-Store Only"
-
- * Sigh, I'm sig-less *
