...and goes on to mention Conner, Fujitsu, and Quantium mechanisms.
I would reccommend AGAINST the Conner. They are erratic, slow, and a bitch to
service. Fujitsu's are good, but good luck finding a low-capacity (100MBish)
one for any reasonable price. The best deal and the best mechanism is the
famed Quantum LP105S. Fast, economical (I've seen them selling for $310 before)and reliable. Don't worry about what happened with your old Quantum, those
old 80's were junky (Apple cutting corners, no doubt). I was cursed even
worse; my IIcx was shipped with a horribly designed Sony mechanism (their 40MB).It had head sticktion, was slow as glue, and didn't like System 7. They gave
me a Quantum 40 for no charge (thank god for warranty!).
I'm going to be buying a 105 external soon, and it will definately have a
Quantum mechanism in it. For all of those who posted to the "LaCie Hard Drives"thread I started, thanks for your advice! I like the Tsunami a lot, but I've
heard too many horror stories about LaCie's customer support being a nightmare.
It's going to come down to the APS or Mirror 105's.
