- Reading Don Crabb's article on upgrading Macs in the latest MacUser
- Ifeel that he has missed a very important point...
-
- He claims that the power supply in the Mac Plus goes bad in "three
- to four years." He then recommends maxing out the RAM to 4MB, adding other
- cards, etc. I have read elsewhere (probably here) that people expect
- a 4MB Plus to expire in a few hundred hours, which is in line with my
- 2.5MB Plus eating a PS every 1-2 years leaving it on all the time. Given
- that the going price on my MacPlus is less than $500 it seems silly to
- pay $300 every year to have the shop replace the PS. Yet for some things
- (and people) the Plus still suffices. The obvious question is...
-
- Doesn't anyone sell the MacPlus power supply to those of us that don't
- mind taking soldering iron in hand?
-
- I'd like to make it last another year and then to pass it on to my parents,
- the ultimate computer-phobics. Any info regarding parts dealers, whatever,
- would be greatly appreciated.
